The momentum of Hitler’s Wehrmacht comes to a grinding halt on the Eastern Front as General Von Paulus’s powerful Sixth Army becomes trapped in the city of Stalingrad as the brutal Russian winter begins. The Germans have to withdraw their thrust down into the oil fields of the Caucasus in a desperate attempt to save the Sixth Army. While Hit1er didn’t realize it at the time, the “high water mark” of the German invasion of the Soviet Union has been reached. As Germany’s strength and resources begin to ebb, now it’s the Russian’s turn to hold the initiative in the Russian-German conflict.
